A Washington State lawmaker is getting recognition for her legislation related to sign language interpreters. The Washington State Association of the Deaf gave Republican Cathy Dahlquist from the Seattle suburb of Enumclaw, an award for proposing
House Bill 1144. The proposed law outlines standards for educational interpreters.  It started as a project for a class by Harley Applin. The Snohomish High School student wanted to
ensure he received a qualified interpreter in school. The ranking Republican on the House Education Committee says, “I am grateful to Harley and James for helping me craft a bill that will address a critical need in our schools.”
